(Obvious answer: No) Take a break from your normal DevOps and cloud native content for something, rather beautiful… Yesterday, Julie, Max, and I took a fun little family trip over to Kensington Metropark (Kensington). This is part of Michigan’s Huron-Clinton Metropark system. Kensington itself is, “4,481 sprawling acres of wooded, hilly terrain surrounds[ing] beautiful Kent Lake”. It is a big park on the outskirts of the Detroit Metro area. The amount of outdoor activities you can do at this park is astounding and it’s a quick trip over to it....

There are a lot of ways to get started with Kubernetes. But, I’ve long said there are two paths to getting started with Kubernetes: maintaining Kubernetes or consuming Kubernetes. They’re distinctly different but, you have to understand consuming Kubernetes before maintaining Kubernetes, in my opinion. Julie and I have experienced a miscarriage. We found out we were pregnant in early November. On Thanksgiving, an episode occurred that demonstrated Julie’s life might be in jeopardy as well as the life of the baby. There was a glimmer of hope that all could go well though; we had to give it time. A week before Christmas 2017, we learned that our second child wasn’t going to make it....

I have accepted the position as Manager, Infrastructure & Operations at Bankrate in Detroit. Julie, Max, Sunny, and I will begin moving to Michigan in mid-June! I will be leading DevOps efforts as the Bankrate team transitions software stacks and moves from on-premise data centers to the cloud. I am beyond excited about the position and the work I will be doing. Making the decision to leave North Carolina did not come easily....

My daughter, Aubree, laid into me hard today about getting her ears pierced. Aubree, her mother and I had a fairly long conversation about it this afternoon. Which ended with me having to consider it; not think about it but, honestly consider it. All decisions I make require some data. I posed a question on Twitter and Facebook asking, “Ladies: How old were you when you got your ears pierced?” I also sent a text message to ten personal friends asking the same question (the responses to which immediately crashed my phone)....
